Elizathon is a 40-something woman who likes to run and write about it…oh, and who happens to be named Elizabeth.
Welcome to Elizathon! I am Elizabeth and THIS is my blog! Here you will find stories of running for the rest of us…and by “rest of us” I mean the average, non-elite runner who still likes to kick ass and take names when it comes to running. But, hey, I don’t discriminate, so if you are an elite runner or a really, really crappy one, you probably will still enjoy some of my running stories so come on in and check it out!
A little bit (more) about MEEEEE. In addition to taking care of 3 great kids and 2 wiggly little doggies and being a wife to the love of my life, I also work full-time as an editor. Let me just tell you…I am no elite athlete. Surprised? Of COURSE you are…I mean, look at me! But seriously, I am just your average runner in every sense of the word. I am not all that fast, nor particularly slow. I don’t log a crazy number of miles a week. I make time to run as much as is feasible with my busy schedule, which usually works out to be 3 or 4 days a week…sometimes 5 if I am really jammin’. Just like you, I am very busy with life’s goings ons, and just like you, I find it challenging to fit running into my schedule as often as I would like. But over the years, I’ve discovered that running is actually kind of fun. It makes me feel good and strong and it potentiates my life, making all the other more important aspects of my life a bit better.
I love training for and running marathons and half marathons. The longer distance is what I find the most challenging and, therefore, very rewarding. I have recently, however, discovered a love for the shorter distance and have been working on incorporating speed training and shorter distance racing into my training.
I initially created this blog as a creative writing outlet and as a motivator to stay on top of running. And those reasons are definitely still a big part of why I’m still blunning (blogging about running). But as strange as it may seem, running is a very group-oriented sport. Runners love to talk to other runners and hear and share stories of running. I know love reading other people’s running stories. I find it very inspirational to read about how someone overcame an injury or an illness and then ran a marathon, or simply just trained for and ran his or her first (or 50th) marathon, or how someone ran a 5k in lightening speed (which is alllllll relative), and I guess I am hoping that maybe my own stories of running may inspire someone to achieve a running goal or maybe even give running a try for the first time.
I don’t post every day, but I try to post essays or whatnot once or twice a week. The content of the posts can be a bit random and deal with many aspects of life; however, I try to keep running as the core focus of the blog. I would never post or promote anything inappropriate to younger readers (I AM a mama, you know), but be warned that the occasional cuss word or light sexual innuendo (all done very humorously I might add) may sneak its way into my writing
so I would say that my target audience is adult runners. I also welcome submissions from readers, and enjoy publishing guest posts from time to time on running. If you are interested in submitting something, just send me an email at elizathon[at]gmail[dot]com or via the comment function at the top of the site.
I LOVE to get comments on all my posts, so please don’t be shy about commenting. I try to respond to every comment I receive. But keep it clean and don’t be mean. I moderate the comments and reserve the right to block anyone whom I feel is overtly negative or crude or just plain inappropriate.
DISCLAIMER: Like I’ve been saying like a billion times, I am just your run-of-the-mill average runner. I am NO expert on running. I do not have any college or master’s degrees in running (wouldn’t that be cool if you COULD major in running while in college?) or exercise physiology or diet or nutrition or anything like that, so please take everything I say with a grain of salt. Go see a doctor if you are injured or hire a running coach if you want professional help with your running. As brilliant as I seem, for goodness sake, don’t take any of my advice!
